How to be Productive Throughout the Year

Imagine thinking about your goals today and then BOOM, three weeks have gone by with little to no progress being made. I remember being so hopeful during the beginning of the year with the goals I set up, that before I knew it, the springtime came. It can be a challenge to stay on track with January already being long gone.

Here are some ways to help you stay productive throughout the year:

  1. Review and re-evaluate your goals that were set at the beginning of the year. Do you still want to achieve them? Are your #NewYearNewGoals the same? How can you begin working on them? Are there any that you haven't finished yet? It helps to have your goals written down or illustrated on a vision board so that you have a clear picture of what you need to work toward. Once you review your goals, you can prioritize them and construct ways to utilize your free time.

  2. Is there anything you can change in your environment to help reach your goals? This could mean a move to a new home, a career change, opening another savings account or a hangout spot with the right vibes. Getting things done at a new place can help change the energy and your attitude toward a particular task. Look up some new places and try one of them out.

  3. Do something that challenges you mentally. Currently, I'm reading "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey and it's definitely a game changer. The author gives practical advice on how to handle people and life, and I get the chance to practice the advice every day. Do you have something that intellectually stimulates you? This can be things such as a motivational podcast or vlog, book, gym, church, or attending think tanks. 

  4. Consider your goals as a form of self-care. You may find it challenging to begin a goal when it’s not urgent or when you’re not financially motivated. If you look at your productivity as part of self-care, then you can work it into your schedule as a vital task.

  5. Sometimes the difference in positivity can also be in the squad you have. For me, I started to see the beginning of change when I noticed I had a more positive group of friends. My squad goals are in sync with what I want to achieve in my life goals.

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to find fun as well as uplifting individuals. You all may not agree on everything, but then again, what's the fun in having friends that shares your exact perspective on everything?

  1. Assess the progress of your goals each week. As the saying goes, “the days go by slow but the years go by fast.” One of the ways you can test your productivity is by making a list of things to do during the week and then at the end of the week you can see what you were and weren’t able to do.

So, I challenge you to be productive. Here are some questions to ask yourself:

What do you want to accomplish this month before May gets here? How will you go about it? When do you want to accomplish these goals (for ex. in two weeks, during the evenings, etc.)? And if you always remember to write down your "why" as a constant reminder, you'll never forget the reasons you started working on your goals!
