Introduction to Recipes With Fab: Green Smoothie
Introduction to Recipes With Fab
Hi! My name is Fabiola Michel and I am a 24-year-old college student who loves food and working out. Growing up I always loved being active. From middle school throughout high school, I was always playing a sport. Track & field was my favorite and even until this day I still enjoy running and exercising. As a child, I loved playing sports because It was fun and because I was very competitive.
Now, as an adult, I see the many benefits of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. When I think of health, I automatically think about being my best self and living my best life. Health and fitness are so important to me because I come from a family where diabetes and high cholesterol are common due to poor nutrition. In Caribbean cultures, the elders are pretty much stuck in their ways so what is a child (even though I'm 24 years old) going to teach them? What could a child possibly know? It is this same attitude that has sadly led to some life-altering diseases throughout my family. I know that in order to break those barriers I must lead by example. While I can't predict the future, I know that eating healthy and exercising regularly will lower my chances of having diabetes and high cholesterol among other chronic diseases. Maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle is important for not only my health but my family's health as well.
I notice that now more than ever when I am cooking or even making a smoothie, my family likes to watch. They ask me questions about what I'm eating, and what health benefits I can gain from it. When I cook I like to share it with them so they can see and taste that eating healthy food can still be tasteful while being good for their bodies.
Living a healthy lifestyle is also important to me because it has mental and physical benefits. When I diet properly and exercise regularly, I look and most importantly I feel great. The saying "when you look good you feel good" is definitely true. Being healthy means that I am doing my part and making sure that I am helping my body and not hurting it by eating foods that can be harmful to my body. In teaming up with Twenty Somethin' & Black, I hope to motivate others to live healthy and active lifestyles. I know that it is hard maintaining a healthy diet these days because everyone is always on the go. With me joining the team, you all can expect to see healthy, delicious and budget-friendly recipes.
