Letter to a Twenty Somethin': Stay Positive, Stay Optimistic

Letter to a Twenty Somethin': Stay Positive, Stay Optimistic

By: Christine Pembroke

Hey Twenty Somethin’,

I just wanted to write you a little note of encouragement because I know how tough and stressful day-to-day living can be for these somewhat formative years of ours. In a world where everyone looks like they’re living their best life, and has their career all mapped out, there can be a lot of pressure for you to do the same. First things first, don’t compare your raw footage to other folk’s highlight reels.

Don’t compare your raw footage to other folk’s highlight reels.

Each one of us has been blessed with a unique journey. How could it possibly be the same? We come from different cultures, upbringings, familial structures, life tools, personalities, etc. Take joy in knowing that you are not only different but one of a kind. With that said, make sure you don’t fall into the comparison trap that’s so easy to get caught up in. Focus on you first. You’re your own competition.

When you find yourself frustrated by a challenge, or saddened by an unforeseen obstacle in your path, take note of the many others before you that dealt with much worse and overcame. Countless celebrities, millionaires, political figures and activists had major misfortunes, faced rejections, lost invested money, and more. Despite those difficulties, they didn’t quit, and that’s what made them great. You were created to be great. Remember that, and a few other things promised to us by our Father in the Book of Life:

Matthew 6:25-26

“Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Psalms 55:22

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”

Philippians 1:6

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

It may sound cliché, but there is always something to gain from even the darkest of days you may face.

Stay positive, and look for a “win” today and every day.
