Side Hustle 101: Get Your Hustle On

A side hustle is all about what you do to make money outside of your 9 to 5. It’s your way to make money that may be out of the ordinary or just an extra means of income. When it comes to the current generation of 20 something boss babes, it has become practically essential to have a side hustle. On one end, it has been said multiple times that more than one stream of income is the way to begin our own generations of wealth. On the other end, if we are being real here, sometimes our regular biweekly check just doesn’t cut it. With us grappling with more bills than our college days, trying to keep our fridges full, all while trying to hold on to our own standard of fly, it can be challenging trying to make things stretch at times.

Nevertheless, if done correctly, a side hustle can help you live the life you want to live. It can’t hurt us to make some money on the side. The good news for us is that there are so many ways to go about finding a hustle that works best.

If you have a side hustle already, you always have the option of adding another one, changing it up or sticking to what already works for you. An important thing to keep in mind is to do things that don’t tire you out or drain you. It wouldn’t be a good idea to dive into a side hustle that takes just as much time as your day job because no matter how you work it we only have 24 hours in a day. You’ve got to figure out something that not only makes money but makes sense with the current life you live.

A few ways to make money include: selling your old things on Poshmark, eBay or another resale source; finding a babysitting job. Typically, the best place to start is simply thinking about things you like to do. What do you do in your free time? Do you create? Do you like organizing? The answers to these questions can lead you to your side hustle.

Another idea to consider is taking on something new. Have you been thinking about learning to do nails? Braid hair? There’s nothing wrong with taking on something new, just as long as you make it something you would find joy in doing.

Once you begin your side hustle, what’s next? Consistency! It’s important to set a goal from the beginning. Decide if you are going to stick with your side hustle for the long run, if you wish to eventually turn it into a business or if you just want to do it until you can afford that new car you’ve been wanting. Once you figure out your purpose of picking up a side hustle, make a plan of consistency. It’s important to stay consistent with our side hustle so that we can see and live the outcomes of our side stash.
